Designs
インテリアとして、存在するだけでも十分に美しい、シンプルな美しさを追求。細くしなやかなフォルムは、洋服のラインを崩さないように、トップからショルダーにかけてゆるやかなカーブを描くように仕上げました。面ではなく線の魅力を際立たせることで中央に空洞が生まれ、その間を通る真鍮製のフックがエッジの効いたアクセントに。洋服をかけていない時も軽やかでモダンな印象を与えます。
We sought the beauty of simplicity in the Urushi Hanger as an interior. Delicate and graceful form finished with gentle curves from top to shoulder keeps clothes in shape. Enhancing its design lines instead of the surface brought space to the center. And the braze hook going through its space gives an edgy accent. It makes a joyful and modern impression on its own.
Materials
木地は九州産ヒノキの積層材。木目が少なく、軽くてしなやかなヒノキの薄い板を重ねて圧縮しています。1本1本すべて手作業で成形するため、50本の木地を作るにも約3カ月はかかります。この木地の上に漆を塗り重ね、漆のすべらかな質感と調和する真鍮製の特注金具を組み合わせました。
The wooden base for the product uses engineered woods made of Japanese cypress grown in Kyushu. Each engineered wood is made by binding lighter and pliant boards with less wood grain. Every wooden base gets formed by hand, so it takes about three months to make 50 pieces. By coating the wooden base with urushi and binding its smooth texture and custom-made brass fitting, we created this Urushi Hanger.
Colors
カラーはクラシカルでベーシックな漆黒、デコレーションのアクセントにもふさわしいモードな朱（あか）、ファッショナブルで洗練された八女グリーンの3種類をご用意。いずれも、天然塗料ならではの上質な艶と深みのある色彩、量産品には出せない奥行きのある表情が魅力です。漆は使い続けるほどに発色が明るくなるという特徴があり、エイジングの楽しみも。塗り直しも可能です。
The Urushi Hanger is available in three colors: Jet black, which is classical and fundamental; Stylish vermilion, which gives an excellent accent to decoration; Yame green, which is fashionable and elegant. What's great about all these colors are the exceptional luster and colors only produced with natural lacquer and the depth that mass production can not bring. Urushi has a unique feature that brightens the colors the more you use it. Enjoy the various tones the Urushi Hanger creates with aging. The Urushi Hanger is also available for refinishing coatings after aging.

美しい仕上がりを左右する塗りの作業。
シンプルで繊細なフォルムのハンガー。その美しさを左右するのは、塗りの技術です。インテリアハンガーの漆塗りを手掛けるのは、福岡県八女市に漆工房岩弥を構える近松敏夫氏。漆を塗る前の下地塗から時間をかけ、その後、一筆ずつ端正に美しく漆を塗り進めていきます。洗練された仕上がりになるよう、色艶の変化、漆の厚みを確かめながら塗りと乾燥の工程を繰り返し、しっとりと深みのある質感を出しています。
The coating process influences its beautiful finish
Coating skill is the key to the beauty of a simple and delicate form of hangers. The artisan who handles putting a lacquer finish on the Urushi Hanger is a Japanese lacquer artisan Toshio Chikamatsu who owns the urushi workshop "Iwaya" in Yame, Fukuoka. After taking some time to apply the base coat, he applies urushi neatly and beautifully, one stroke at a time. To ensure an elegant finish, he captures a distinctively soft and deepened texture by repeating the applying and drying process while inspecting the change of color and luster, and thickness.
天然塗料「漆」ならではの魅力ある色。
漆の色は天然の生漆に顔料を混ぜて調合。漆は空気にふれたそばから色が変わっていくため、乾燥時の仕上がりをどれだけ正確にイメージできるかが勝負。経験と感性が試されるデリケートな作業です。最初は暗く沈んでいた漆の色も、空気や光にふれていくうちに明るく変化。使い続けるほどに“漆が育ち”、予想を超える美が現れます。
Appealing color that only natural paint “urushi lacquer” can bring
The color of urushi is made by blending raw natural urushi lacquer and pigment. Urushi changes its color on catching air. So it is essential how you visualize the image of its finish after drying. This is a delicate task that tests your experience and sense. The dark and muted color of urushi evolves brighter as it gets exposed to air and lights. Urushi shows its beauty beyond expectation with aging.
じっくりと漆を馴染ませ、仕上がりまでに約半年。
漆特有の艶と深みのある色彩は、乾燥や研ぎの工程を挟みながら、何度も塗りを重ねることで生まれます。塗りの工程だけで３～４カ月、乾燥の時間を加えると約半年という月日が必要。こうして時間をかけてじっくりと漆を馴染ませていくことで、味わい深い表情が生まれるのはもちろん本体の強度も増し、永く使い続けていただけるインテリアハンガーに育っていきます。
Takes about half a year to gradually adjust the urushi lacquer
The unique luster and color of urushi are delivered by repeatedly applying urushi with a drying and grinding process. The coating process takes three to four months. Adding drying time to it, it takes about half a year in total. Adjusting urushi gradually creates appealing depth and increases its durability. This process develops the Urushi Hanger to be used for a long time.

福岡県八女市生まれ。八女市で生まれ育ち、18歳から6年半京都で修業を終えたのち、再び故郷八女の地に戻り、実家である近松岩吉商店に入り伝統工芸に携わる。1997年伝統工芸士の国家資格を取得し、福岡県伝統的工芸品振興協議会長賞を受賞。福岡県の福岡県伝統的工芸品展にも出展。2016年に独立し、漆工房岩弥を開業。
Japanese Lacquer Artisan / Traditional Craftsman
TOSHIO CHIKAMATSU
Toshio Chikamatsu is a Japanese lacquer artisan and traditional craftsman based in Yame, Fukuoka. He was born and raised in Yame and moved to Kyoto to train as a craftsman at 18. After six and half years of training, he moved back to Yame and joined Chikamatsu Iwakichi Store, his family business. It got him involved in traditional crafts. He acquired the national qualification of traditional craftsman in 1997 and earned the Fukuoka prefecture Traditional Crafts Promotion Council Chairman Award. He also participated in the Fukuoka Traditional Crafts Exhibition. In 2016, he opened the urushi workshop "Iwaya."

WATARU SAKAI
木材の軽さが仕上がりの軽やかさに。
木地のデザインと製造を手掛けるのは糸島市在住の木工家・酒井航氏。スリムで現代的なフォルムの木地をつくるため、素材には軽くて加工にも適した糸島産や九州産のヒノキを厳選しました。さらに、完成時の軽さと作業の効率を重視し、木地用のヒノキは一度薄い板状にしたものを圧縮して成形しています。
The lightness of the wood links to the grace of its finish
The craftsman who handles the design and production of the wooden base is Wataru Sakai, a wood craftsman based in Itoshima, Fukuoka. He carefully selected the Japanese cypress of Itoshima and Kyushu as a material. Lightweight cypress is ideal for producing a slim yet modern form of the wooden base. He uses the material once made into a thin board, then compressed. This is to emphasize the lightness of the finished wooden base and work efficiency.
繊細な角度や丸みは手作業で出す。
デザインがシンプルになるほど手間がかかる木工の世界。インテリアハンガーの繊細な丸みやラインを均一に再現するには、職人の経験が不可欠です。荒取りから繊細な仕上げまでのほとんどの工程が手作業。素手に伝わる木の感触を頼りに、慎重かつ丁寧に作業を進めます。
Create exquisite angle and roundness by hand
In the woodworking world, it takes time and effort when the design gets simpler. A craftsman's experience is essential to recreate the delicate roundness and line of the Urushi Hanger. From roughing to finishing, most of the processes are done by hand. Relying on the feel of his bare hand, he works carefully and gently.

福岡県出身。岐阜県飛騨高山で木工の基礎を学び、長野県小諸で木工作家の谷進一郎氏に師事。クォリティの高い手仕事を学び独立した後、2011年に福岡県糸島市にDOUBLE＝DOUBLE FURNITUREを開設。家具やテーブルウェアなど、ユーザー目線を大切に、使い続けるほどに魅力を増すデザイン性にも富んだ作品を発表する。

Wataru Sakai, born in Fukuoka, learned fundamental woodworking skills in Hida Takayama, Gifu, and trained under Shinichiro Tani, a woodworking artist. After learning high-quality handwork, he launched DOUBLE＝DOUBLE FURNITURE in Itoshima, Fukuoka, in 2011. While valuing users' perspectives, he creates highly designed woodworks such as furniture and tableware that improves as it ages.
